Hi,

Just took my C3 to a diesel specialist today as it is taking its time to start and when it does there is a cloud of white smoke.

I've had the diagnostics done on my latest service which came up with an injector P0204 (something like that).

These were cleared but the problem remained.

The mechanic has removed all 4 injectors and states they are 'Very Bad' with test showing a 0, 3, 5 & 6 second (something or other) where it should really be 60 seconds (in his opinion).

He has taken the injectors apart and there are signs of metal swarf (or something) also this is showing in the fuel filter. Although he can recon the injectors he says that the fuel pump may have metal in it and this would end up costing more and more?

I've asked him to rebuild and I am about to go and collect the vehicle (£160) which he claims may not start now!

Can anyone advise as to what he is talking about and what my course of action should be here?

I am quite happy to source parts myself but I don't fully understand what he is talking about?

Thanks
D4

Which bit do you not understand?

White smoke could well be injectors. Inspect the injectors shows damage. Fuel filter shows metal in it that should not be there , the metal has come from somewhere. That somewhere could well be the fuel pump.

New injectors, or even repaired injectors are not particularly cheap, the injection pump is not cheap and contaminated fuel lines are expensive (time consuming) to repair.

Could be a faulty injector no.4

Whatever test he did, his advice is all 4 injectors need replacing. He wouldn't replace 4 injectors if the fuel pump was damaged because the new injectors will soon be damaged again.

Yes, more and more money.

You are paying for dismantling, inspecting, testing and reassembly. That's not a bad price considering the work he has done. It may not run if the injectors are not functioning as they should because they are damaged.

How much do you want to spend on it? or how much is it worth to you to keep on the road?

Its your call, but ask him to quote for the 4 injectors, a fuel pump and a full clean out of the fuel system to remove any remaining swarf, new fuel filter and any other parts he suggests. You can have a second hand fuel pump, it doesn't need to be new, or even reconditioned.

Then decide if its worth repairing based on the quote and a bit more for contingency.
