Hi,

My mechanic says that my fuel pump has gone on my car and it would be best to look for a second hand one because Euro Parts want around £800!!

I've checked Ebay but there are a number of different ones. i.e Siemens, Delphi, Bosch etc..

He doesn't have time to get it out and I don't know if there is a way to identify it properly.

Please can you help.

Thanks

Hi midiman. It will have to come out to be replaced....

Yes, it would be best to inspect the one you have in your car to get a close match.

Is this the High Pressure Pump or the low pressure one?

Hi, C3Driver52

He is not really being very helpful so I've got to do the groundwork.

I don't know what type it is but I have found an identical car where I could get one from. It's the same model and exact year.

So I was thinking about asking them if they would accept the pump as a return if it was the wrong type.

Then my mechanic will have to get the old one as part of the fitting process.

Thanks

But you really need to know which pump to remove from the donor car you have found.

After it had been removed? I wouldn't accept any returns if I was selling parts.

Useful, those 16v 1.4HDi engines don't come around very often.

Hi,

Do you know where the diesel pump is located on the car.

I need to find out what model it is before I can order one.

Thanks

Hello midiman

Yes, I do.

The low-pressure fuel pump is in the fuel tank, part of the fuel gauge unit, located under the rear seat cushion.

The High-pressure pump is attached to the engine, driven by the cam belt, located to the rear, at the top of the engine.

Some models don't have the low pressure pump in the fuel tank, but if yours does, it will be in the unit marked '2'

Often available here (eBAY) but check compatibility with the seller

The High-Pressure pump is arrowed in white, the common-rail arrowed in black, ENGINE SHOWN FROM THE REAR (removed from car).

Thanks for that.

My car is a 1.4HDi 16v model and I don't think that it has one in the fuel tank.

So it should be the main one in the engine bay.

Possibly Delphi.

Hi,

It could be my injectors again and my mechanic suggested to get them checked.

I put it on the Lexia and it has some permanent faults.
But I cleared them and they didn't come back again.
Maybe that was because it didn't start when I turned it over.

The car is on 145K miles and this is the injectors have been overhauled twice already.

Question is -

How hard are they to remove? Can I do it myself?

Could I buy some get a 2nd hand set off a breaking car Ebay and code them to the car using the Lexia?

I would only get 12 months on a re-con and it each one would cost around £125 to do.

I don't think I will be keeping the car for another year and would be selling it soon anyway.

Stuck for ideas.

Thanks

Hi midiman

The injectors, if they fuel filter service and water drain at the oil change is neglected, do suffer. They do go faulty on the C3 16v HDi

You can check them with a leakoff for a ruogh and ready test, see How do I perform a leak off on a 1.4HDi 16v?

But you can get a mush better idea of the repair cost with a proper test with the injector removed, have a look at these Injector testing services.

Its good if they don't come back. BUT its always a good idea to record (on paper, phone or a screen shot of lexia) what the codes were. This is good for later diagnostics and reoccurring faults.
midiman wrote:How hard are they to remove?
Not difficult, have a look at Identifying a 'chuffing' sound from the engine bay. Diesel,
midiman wrote:Can I do it myself?
Yes, you don't need to be a Citroen trained mechanic to work on the C3.
midiman wrote:Could I buy some get a 2nd hand set off a breaking car Ebay and code them to the car using the Lexia?
Yes, you can.

You should code in reconditioned, new and donor injectors - just use lexia and the sticker or documentation with the recon injector
