One of the seals went on my c3 1.4hdi 2003 and the clutch went soon after so i got a mechanic to do the 2 jobs.
when he was removing the fuel injector he broke it (said it was wedged in . probably was) and now is claiming the only fuel injector correct for the make and model is £180 and is hard to get hold of.
he says he will do the work for free but really? £180 ?
frankly i am mad that he didnt even offer compo for the damaged (expensive) part. he just offered to replace it.
the car is a bit past its economical value now .. £250 for new clutch and was £150 to replace the seal..
its just done the MOT 3 weeks ago and i feel that these costs are mounting
is the fuel injector a proper price? are second hand scrap yard ones worth bothering with? what compo should the garage be offering?

Hi paulg
One of those difficult ones.
It is possible to break injectors when removing even if not a common thing, I guess it comes down to how much trust you have in the mechanics ability?
The price quoted for injectors sound in the right region, they ain't cheap.
You could look at re-conditioned - if you can get them, or from a scrap car which can be hit and miss. Still pricey but should be cheaper than new. Ideally you want one off an accident damaged car that was a good runner prior to being bent.
Another way is to buy any old used injector (of the correct type) and get it re-conditioned. It might sound odd but might just be a cost effective way forward.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried
