LOW OIL PRESURE error and then it cuts out

Citroen C3 1.4hdi, 2009., Exclusive

LOW OIL PRESSURE error shows up periodically and then C3 cuts out. Sometimes it runs fine for a couple of days and sometimes the error pops up twice in 10 minutes. There is no rule as in when or where it happens - warm or cold, just started the car or driving for 2 hours, driving fast or slow...

It's been like this for 3 months. Two weeks ago a mechanic checked it with a diagnostic tool and found no errors. Any suggestions?

Obviously check there is actually oil in there, topped up correctly.

Then I would be looking at some serious oil contamination (drain it all out to check the oil) or a failure of the oil pump, or the pressure sensor, and its connection to the engine ECU.

If you wanted to change the oil pressure sensor, it is number 16 in the diagram and the seal is no 17
