Intermittent starting issues 2008

Any advice/ sharing of similar experience welcome!

Having issues starting my C3. Occurs intermittently, and now more frequently.

Occurs when the car has already been used on that day.
When turning the key in the ignition, the dashboard lights up - with no additional warning lights. The car doesn’t turn over, and there is a clicking noise in the glove compartment area.

Typically the car will re-start with no issues after an hour.
This has happened several occasions over the past few days. I called the RAC out today, however by the time they attended the car would start again and they were unable to establish the issue.

Diagnostic tests showed that the battery would need replacing, however the mechanic did not think this would solve the issue. I will be taking the car into the a local garage, however as the problem is intermittent I am unsure whether they will be able to identify the issue.

I would change the battery first.
