Hi,

How do I perform a leak off test on a 1.4Hdi 16v?

Where are the leak off valves on the injectors?

Do I need any special kind of equipment to connect the plastic tubing to the fuel injector leak offs?

And how do I run the test?

Thanks

You can butcher your existing leakoff connectors or use a kit like this (click here). Connect each leak off to a pipe and run the pipe to one of 4 clear plastic identical bottles.

Run the engine so the leak off from each injector runs into its own bottle/container.

like this

or like this

It all depends on what you have to hand or can source cheaply.

After a few minutes of running you will get the idea of how it works as the bottles fill up slowly, with the exception of the worn injector which will fill more rapidly.

Longer bits of pipe will make the job easier to manage

This one is from a 2003 1.4 16v HDI with over 100 000 miles on the clock. Suffering from poor starting and white smoke after starting until warm and doesn't want to rev up straight away.

You could pull off the linking pipes from your existing leakoff connectors and attach some longer pipe to each one, but if you damage one or damage the original citroen pipe, you will have to replace it before driving the car. With the kit I linked to above, you don't have to modify anything, just swap it in and swap it out when you are finished.

Its just a question of how much you want to spend vs how handy you are with rigging up bits of pipe.

There are some handy ready made leak off kits available for the 8 valve and 16 valve C3s which can save time sourcing the different parts required.

This Kit covers both the 8v Bosch/Siemens and the 16v Delphi injectors. It includes the connectors, pipes, measuring receptacles and a storage case.

This kit is for the 8v Bosch/Siemens injectors ONLY. (BELOW)

Hi, I performed a leak off test today and here are the results.

I run the test like this.

2 minutes at idle.
30 seconds 2500rpm.
30 seconds idle.
30 seconds 2500rpm.
30 seconds idle.
30 seconds 2500rpm.
30 seconds idle.
30 seconds 2500rpm.
30 seconds idle.

I don't know if this was too long.
bottle.jpg
Bottle 1 had approx 35ml
Bottle 2 had approx 35ml
Bottle 3 had way over 35ml
Bottle 4 had way over 35ml

These were not the injectors that we thought could be the problem.

1 and 2 looked dirty, coked up and in a mess. And 3 and 4 looked completely clean.

Thanks for the pictures and your leak off procedure, quite a comprehensive test. Those bottles really do show the problem.

Injector number 1 is at the transmission end.

You can run the test for as long as there is space in the plastic bottles. It doesn't do any harm.

Looks like there are 2 injectors to change :|
