Hi,

Please help! My engine has cut out a few times. It beeps 3 times then loses power. It flashed up 'Anti-pollution fault' I read this post anti pollution fault on a C3 Diesel and bought the two items. I poured the first one directly into the fuel tank, however I couldn't find where to put the PAT fluid. Since then it has cut out twice more but it now flashes up 'Oil Pressure Fault' It has been to three garages, including two dealerships and they can't find anything wrong with it. It had a full service, but that didn't help.

I am picking the car up again as the garage say there's nothing there can do, but it is so dangerous to drive- the engine cutting out on the motorway is not fun. I'm not sure if it's psychosomatic but it does feel hard to drive, slightly sluggish. Any help, advice gratefully received.

Thank you so much in advance!

Welcome to the forum ladyflet,
Any help, advice gratefully received.
If you want to go about diagnosing this yourself, you will need a lexia reader and a laptop. You can find out a bit about the lexia system HERE and you can buy the lexia HERE (on ebay) just add a laptop and several hours to set it up ;)

Without the tools above you are not going to get anywhere fixing the C3. In my experience just spending money on parts and fixes without doing the diagnosis will just cost money and not necessarily repair the problem.

Having the code reader will open doors to diagnose the problem by reading the codes stored or lack of codes stored.

If two garages have had the car, don't expect it to be a quick and simple fix, you will need to put some time and effort into it if you want to do it yourself. If you don't have the time, then I suggest you get it to another Citroen workshop for them to do the diagnosis.........

I poured the first one directly into the fuel tank,
Was that the JLM DPF cleaner from (here) product, with a full tank of fuel and then you ran around in the car till the fuel light came on?

however I couldn't find where to put the PAT fluid.
You can deal with this later. Its not a simple as pouring it in the tank and is not urgent if you used the JLM DPF/FAP cleaner solution correctly.

I don't want to do it myself, but the garages have run diagnostics and no faults have shown so they have been unable to repair it.They basically said come and collect it, it's still broken
When I put the JML in the fuel tank was about 3/4 full and I ran it down to about 1/8 full, should I get some more and try repeating with the above instructions?

Thanks so much for your help

No, what you have done is enough to be sure its not a problem with the DPF that you can deal with yourself.

but the garages have run diagnostics and no faults have shown
This, in itself is useful. If we can believe what the garage has said, as in NO FAULTS, then the problem sounds like a main electrical power fault. This sort of fault gives no codes or throws up random ones (like anti pollution) as the electrics die.

There were some recalls on the C3 for earth leads of incorrect specification that lead to engine cut out, so it would be worth contacting citroen HQ with your VIN to see if there is an outstanding recall on it.

Contact Citroen - email and phone numbers

Other than that, I would be checking all the big heavy main electrical power connections from the battery to the engine bay fuse box, then look closer at the engine bay fuse box, if I can't see anything before then.

You may be better off taking the car to an auto electrical specialist, rather than a mechanic as I think this could well be an electrical problem rather than a mechanical one.

Thanks so much for your help
Thats OK, let us know how you get on with the check for recalls

Hello,

No recall on my car.

It's been into the garage who are not sure what is wrong with it, but think it may be the fuse box, so I am having that changed.

The car feels sludgy to drive too I've noticed- could that be linked in or maybe a seperate issue?

Hi,

Im having exactly the same issue. Car runs ok but intermittantly cuts out, 'anti pollution' error flashes up. I have to 'coast' to a stop, then reset.
Generally it restarts ok and away I go, until next time? Its getting dangerous.... but i can drive for a week without a issue?

If you managed to find out what this issue was, please can you advise?

thanks

You can start by reading the codes with a cheap OBD reader like this one from here. When you get your codes, clear them all and get new codes when it stall again. You should then start a new topic for your codes and you may get a bit further.
