Hello,
i would like to try to replace the head gasket of my citroen c3 1.4 hdi engine 8HX year 2004
(i described the symptoms of my car everywhere, all people told me there is a head gasket problem)
Now i am searching for a guide to do correctly the job.
I think that the most useful guides to understand how to do the job are the videos existing on youtube.
Did you find some video where is done such job for our 1.4 hdi engine?
If you have found it, can you post here the link?

Or perhaps , did you find some manual/guide on the web, with images that show the steps for the detachment of the engine head?
If yes, can you post the link to such guide?

Let me know!
Thank you!

The guide is here - its the Haynes manual for the C3

I would disagree. It is a very involved to do it right you will need all the torque setting. This is far too big a job to 'learn it from youtube' in my opinion.

It is very uncommon for the diesel engine to have head gasket problems. I would be surprised if there are any solutions on youtube. I know you have been told many times its the head gasket, but being so uncommon, did you actually TEST for it (here)?.

If you are unaware of the Haynes manual, its useful to read the steps involved and decide if the job is worth doing....

Have you considered K Seal (from ebay - here) as a stop gap on a car that has done 250000 miles (stop gap to the vehicle recyclers)?

Its all in the Haynes Manual on Amazon ;)

and some pictures of the head off, engine out appear in this topic by RC3D.

Head gasket testing on a diesel is the same for a petrol, the detection of CO2 combustion gasses in the coolant is an indication that the two have mixed in the engine and this is bad. The usual culprit for this is the head gasket, but a cracked head or block (liners) can allow the combustion gasses to mix with the coolant. A cheap test can identify a failed engine and costings for repair can be considered. If the head and block are separated the head gasket will need to be replaced but you may also need to repair or replace the head if its cracked or warped or replace the engine if the block is cracked  Its only possible to see the state of the engine parts when its been separated and at this point a replacement engine (here) may be a more cost effective solution

A new head gasket can be found in this link to euro car parts and enter your reg or engine details for the correct part. Consider the full kit of top gaskets because you will be disturbing or removing more than just the head gasket.

Use is link for an inexpensive head gasket test kit

1. Fill this device with liquid (approx. 2 ml) to the level between the chambers (as in the photo).
2. Connect the tester to the opening of the expansion tank or radiator
3. Start the engine (preferably already warm), bring to the increased turnover in order to achieve greater combustion pressure.
4. Leave the engine on slightly elevated speeds and observe the behavior of reaction fluid
5. If the fluid turns YELLOW or GREEN , a combustion leak is present. Change the color of the liquid reaction to yellow (petrol engines, LPG) or green (diesel)
6.After completing the tests carefully remove the device
7. The reaction liquid that has not changed color may be reused.

Thank you very much for the answers.
I knew the kit, i already bought that kit, tomorrow i will do the test, just to confirm the problem of the head gasket before to start the job.
I agree , the torque settings are needed: i have the c3 workshop manual for that.
But for my experience the video are very useful to understand how to do the job. In the workshop manual there are the steps too, but they are thought for a workshop, with a full workshop equipment. DIY often doesn't have the full equipment, and the videos many times explain better how to do it without the workshop equipment.
Many times not all the detachement steps listed in the workshop manual are needed...sometimes some steps can be skipped, or done in a more speedy way...
