What exactly was looked at?

Did they just 'look' at the belt, or did they check all the timing marks are aligned correctly?

and

are you saying there is less exhaust gasses coming out of the exhaust than to be expected, or just that its not smoking very much (behaving normally at the exhaust end)?

and
still no fault codes
What tool was used to get the codes? (or not get the codes).

had a diagnostic done by a professional no fault codes ,
just vacuum loss i think he said,
so a new machanic had the car 2 full days.
i had the whole car looked over stripped right down.
no problems found, but he couldnt test everything he didnt have the parts,.
i took the air filter out and the car drove 10 times better ,not perfect but a lot better.
it was a new air filter.
put it back in and it has power loss same as before.
why would it be better without the air filter.
any clues.

It may be a bit obvious, but if there is a problem with the filter, you could try another new one. They have them on online and will deliver to your door. This one will fit: Citroen C3 1.4 Hdi 8v Air Filter 2002-2007 (WA6738)

If, for some reason the original filter has been contaminated, then removing the filter will give you a improvement in performance. The only logical next step is to fit another new filter (from a different source than the previous one).

With the air filter cover and pipe removed I would also check the big pipe that goes to the headlight from the air filter to see that its not obstructed or blocked by something.

I assume you reassembled the air filter box back together when testing without the filter fitted. Can you confirm that the only bit that was removed was the actual filter (like the one in the picture) and not the whole filter cover and pipe.

Its good to see there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Its only the 16 valve version of a 2002 Diesel C3 that has a Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor. The 8v doesn't have one.

If no.1 injector goes back into no.1 cylinder, no.2 into no.2 , no.3 into no.3 and no.4 into no.4 then they don't need to be reprogrammed but if they have been switched around or different injectors fitted then the ECU will need programming of the code on the injectors.

How did you have the injectors cleaned?
