fuel rail removal and fuel pressure valve location

You are correct. It is at the rear of the engine and sandwiched between the firewall and the engine. There are coolant pipes and the EGR system in the way.

It is not very easy to get to as you have to lay over the engine to access it.

My concern would be why you need to remove the common rail. It is just a receiver for fuel. It doesn't go 'faulty'. The fuel pressure sensor on the common rail reports back the pressure in the receiver/common rail and any low or high readings will not be due to the rail.

If its low, then you probably have faulty injectors, non-starter and lots of leakoff - easy test here.

If it's high, there is a problem with the high pressure pump regulation or the sensor, not the rail.
