Hi, I went to check oil level last week on my 2003 C3 1.4 16v HDi and my dipstick appears to have broken off just where the level marks end, about 3 inches from the end. I don't know if this happened when it was out of the car at the last service and the garage forgot to tell me, or if it somehow broke whilst in the engine. I've bought a new dipstick and it has pushed all the way down with no apparent obstruction so either the broken off bit was never there, OR it has presumably pushed/fallen down into the sump. My question is, if the bottom ?? 3 inches or so has fallen down into the sump, should I worry about it somehow getting mangled up into the engine, or will it sit there safely protected by filters or whatever? Do I need to worry abut it before the next service or can I safely leave it till then and just ask the garage to take the sump off when they do the next oil change and fish it out then? Sorry if this is a stupid question or is addressed elsewhere on the forum.
Thanks in anticipation.
Kev

Welcome to the forum Kev,
this is a picture of the pick-up for the oil pump found on the diesel engined C3s
Part number 9641263780 or 1018.66 (101866)
I can see a gauze filter on the circle which the oil is drawn up into the oil pump, so it looks like you are covered.
This is the part in context (number 2)
Hopefully the missing part will just drain out with the waste oil at its next service, finding it in the waste oil will save having to remove the sump.

Think you will be lucky if part comes out through drain hole. Keep in mind it is light weight and may stick anywhere in sump. Just see what happens on next drain.
