Afternoon all, Hoping for a bit of advise.
My 2005 1.4 Diesel has had a problem for month or two. It would start ok when it was cold, but when its hot I've been having to crank it for about 30 seconds for it to fire.
Before this started happening, if I was cruising on the motorway and put my foot down to overtake, the EML would come on and it would go into limp mode with no where near enough power to overtake or do anything, the light would stay on after turning off/on again but the limp mode was not on. after a day or two of not being used, the EML would go off on its own. When I checked the codes, I would get P0002, P1351, P1163. (one I think relates to the glowplugs, from checking before, not too worried about that one as it always started fine!)
The DTC initially led me to think fuel pump/pressure valve, but after a bit of reading, started to suspect injectors.
To that end did a leak off test earlier with this result... this was done with the engine idling for about 2 minutes, 20 - 30 seconds at about 2200 RPM then back to idle for about 1 minute. (then switched off before cylinder 3 bottle had a chance to overflow)
bottles were arranged as they are now, as viewed from the front, all references to cylinder numbers are counting from right to left
To my inexperienced (in this engine) eye, cylinder 3 injector is definitely due for replacement.
But seeing that cylinder 1 is so low, is this roughly where they should all be, ie do cylinders 2 and 4 injectors also need replacement.
I've been able to get hold of 4 'apparantly' reconditioned injectors for £140, I'll see whether they have actually been reconditioned or not when I fit them!

I would say you have only 1 good injector and 2 bad ones and one terrible one.ianardavis wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 1:38 pm To my inexperienced (in this engine) eye, cylinder 3 injector is definitely due for replacement.

You will probably find changing just the terrible one will fix the fault, but where is the fun in that?
Yes, that is what catches people out with error codes. The fuel pressure fault indicates the ECU can't see the right pressure of fuel while cranking. Nothing to do with a faulty sensor or a faulty ECU, but a leaking injector that bleeds all that fuel pressure away.ianardavis wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 1:38 pm The DTC initially led me to think fuel pump/pressure valve,
Well spotted, great detective work.
Thanks for sharing your pictures and the diagnosis. I am sure you have hit the nail on the head here

If you really do have a 16v Delphi system, the printout for the recon injectors would be useful so you can fill in the lexia form for injector attribute adjustment (injector classification) .

I've got a lexia on order to do exactly this! Does coding the injectors require a security code or anything? (I know when I had a Vectra you needed a security pin code to make any changes to the ecu)Arfur Dent wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 6:33 pm If you really do have a 16v Delphi system, the printout for the recon injectors would be useful so you can fill in the lexia form for injector attribute adjustment (injector classification) .

No, it doesn't. But if it ever does ask for a code try 03114 for keys or immobiliser and you are at this screenianardavis wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 9:02 pmI've got a lexia on order to do exactly this!
