Hi Guys - Newbie on site
Pulling my hair out over my 1.4 16v hdi car. I have had poor performance problems for a few months now with a flat spot - so decided to chance glow plugs and give EGR pipe etc a clean.
Scutter to get to glow plugs but managed after taking off injector pipes + air flow connectors etc on top of engine. As wires for glow plugs were hard fast behind injector pipes .
All went back fine no problems - but when away to start it Car turns over but will not fire -
looks like no diesel getting in? well i think ?

Changing the glow plugs won't affect performance. EGR inspection may find a fault and cleaning won't do any harm.

Injector pipes removed? Then you need to prime the system if there is now air where the fuel should be.

Prime the system by squeezing the bulb. Keep squeezing until you feel a resistance change.

You could change the fuel filter if you are having those sort of performance issues, if its due.

many thanks for reply
I did squeeze the piece in question but did not work - maybe I need to do it a bit longer as possibly a lot of air in system.
Will Try for longer.
will update after trying this.
cheers

Squeeze several times, then squeeze again. You should feel the 'piece in question' get harder and more difficult to squeeze as the air is expelled.

You may need to go through the process of priming then starting and priming then starting several times until it fires up.

ok I will try it again as I have only done the prime test a few times -
as all the pipes were off for some time a lot of air must have gone in.
As I can hear it Bubbling in the fuel tank every time I pump it.
I noticed a Bleed screw on the Fuel Filter can I use This ?

That is the water drain valve.

Be careful if you let the water out, ensure the pipe that the bottom is connected or catch the water in a rag, otherwise it can end up in the clutch. Its good to drain the water out every year or two. I don't think its going to help the bleeding though.

ok no worries will leave tap alone on top of filter.
Have been squeezing pipe now on and off I do feel resistance - but still non starter
I tried to start 3 times during the squeeze .
could it be faulty plugs as I feel resistance as it is getting harder to squeeze.

That's because you haven't started the engine, so the car is load shedding to save the battery. Eco mode will clear when its started.

Maybe you dislodged or disconnected something and not reconnected it correctly?

Other than that, Lexia will help pinpoint the error.
