I doubt you would ever get to the bottom of this question, because, why would anyone want to dive their car around with a key part of the intake system missing?

Why not fit the bit you took out to see if the problem you have is cleared?

The C3 ECU monitors lots of different signals for coherence and as soon as you start removing components that the system was never designed to go without, it will be bound to behave in ways never programmed to it.
