Hi guys

i have 2004 c3 with 26873633 vin.car has abs with no esp and automatic climate. When i switch climate on or heat bar 3 dash warms and beeps 3 times and all the heat lights on.

i changed engine heat sensor, thermostat, controlled all wiring ( can bus wiring, fan power cables), changed relay.but nothing solved the problem

i discover that if engine warning light on everything is ok when engine warning light turna off on the dashboard fan not cuts in and the problem comes back.

Can you any advice?

What can i do

I would use lexia to pull up any error codes before changing parts and it can help guide you to the point of the problem.

Dear arfur

Lexia code P0485. On slow speed actuator it says faulty actuator. But sometimes fan cuts in. İs it a fan issue or an ecu issue?

Fan is smart fan 1253h3

This is the million dollar question. You can't be sure from a P code, but its easier to try a new fan than try a new ECU.

An interesting alternative description for P0485 is Cooling Fan Power/Ground Circuit Malfunction

Which would make me look at a poor electrical connection/earth which would fit nicely with your intermittent description. The C3 is quite well known for poor electrical connections, so it would be worth unplugging and checking all the fan connections.

You can also check the voltages on the fan, there is a +12v and earth for supply and a variable voltage on the small wires for the fan speed control.

It may be a faulty fan, giving intermittent service.

I also have this exact problem with the same fault codes. Did you manage to fix it?

With my car, the fan was the problem. I changed it, but obviously received a different "cheap" (i think it was 180 Euro, original was 300 Euro, if i remember correctly) model, that doesn't function right. The before mentioned problems are gone, but new have come. Now the fan turns on full speed most of the time, and the car sounds like a propeller plane taking off...

This happened to me, i bought a new fan and it would just come on all of the time even on cold and then through the temp gauge to the top on cold. so i took the fan back and now i am back to square one. I really dont want to take it to citroen but it looks like i may have to :(

Sounds like resistor pack failure if the c3 has one that is.

Hi Ploddit, for this particular engine the engine cooling fan is a 'smart fan', its electronically speed controlled and computer monitored (no resistor pack). The engine cooling system is monitored by the engine ECU and can inhibit the climate control if errors are found in the cooling system monitoring.

Fixing the cooling fan issue should clear the climate control problem.

The P code found by using Lexia was P0485
P0485 cooling fan Citroen C3
P0485 cooling fan Citroen C3
(right code, wrong engine)
