bad starting both hot and cold

hi i have now got bad starting :( with my 16v diesel i have changed the glow plugs and the relay

and still not starting well and no warning (pre heat ) on the dash :( when it does start it runs very well.

it also has bad starting when hot but i have to use the gas pedal

any ideas :?: cheers dave

You did well to get the old glow plugs out.

But changing both the relay and the glow plugs won't help you with your poor starting problem if you are in the UK (it doesn't get cold enough to need the glow plugs for starting).

Poor starting can be due to a number of reasons. Starter turning speed - disables starting if the starter is slow to turn, starting is disabled if the fuel pressure is too low in the common rail, along with transponder (immobiliser) problems.


To diagnose get the engine codes and live data from Lexia 3. You can also try a leak off test on the injectors to check these for a high leakoff which causes low pressure in the common rail.

i am going to buy a lexia3 . i have put a code reader on and the code of P1207

After reading the forum i realise i have wasted my money :(

i will put the lexia3 on it and keep trying and post my findings

hi forgot to say cranking speed 210 rpm

and the rail pressure reading when running is 3000 to 8000 psi

i dont no if this is good or bad ? im based in the S/E england

So its not very cold (not cold enough to use the pre-heater mode, only post heat mode).
