Hello
I've been having issues with my 2004 hdi desire.
On a short trip I had a lot of smoke and power loss, with a bad burning smell.
Upon taking off the air filter box, I've found the smoke is coming from one of the injectors. Plus there's a mysterious liquid visible plus diesel smell.
I'm thinking the seal on this injector has gone, from some limited research it seems that's a common issue with cars around 100k miles (mines done 94k) but I'm not a mechanic and injectors are expensive so I was wondering if I could get a second opinion and if there's an alternative.
Here's a video of the suspect

Hello Mike

The mysterious liquid is probably diesel.

You are burning off the heavy oil (diesel) on the hot cylinder head and it smokes when you do that.

The diesel is probably coming from the leak-off pipe/injector leak-off.

You may have just popped off a leak off pipe (not the injector supply pipe, the other one). Although they shouldn't do this and it may indicate the injector is worn to pop that pipe off.

Refit the leak-off pipe to the injector, clean up the spilt diesel and see how it goes.
