Hi guys i have a 2006 citroen c3 HDi 1.4 8v and last night i was driving and as i changed gear the car lost all boost and refused to boost there after. There is a loud whining noise coming form the turbo and as you rev higher it gets louder if you hit a bump the pitch seems to change a bit, there is no smoke coming out the back i pulled the boost pipes off and they seem to have no leaks there is a bit of oil in the pipes which cant be good. hard to tell but i dont feel any play on the turbo shaft.

has anyone had this happen to them or have any suggestions?

Im really hoping my turbo has not blown as they are very expensive here.

I wouldn't worry about a little bit of oil that collects in the breather pipe. Mine has a small amount of oil in the turbo pipe and it runs fine and passes the UK emission test (MOT).

Turbo boost is controlled by the wastegate on the 8v engines, a jammed open waste-gate could reduce the boost and everything else on the turbo will look fine. Worth having a quick look.

There is a post on stripping down and rebuilding a Citroen C3 turbo charger (thanks to RC3D), here:

Thanks for the update. Its sounds quite amazing that the shaft should break.

Do you think the oil from the broken turbo clogged up the cat?

It is quite possible but when the turbo broke there was no smoke at all coming from the exhaust
