hi , the engine on my Citroen C3 has realy become loud recently. Yesterday I've been to the garage to get the new key paired/programmed and the guy said it is one of the injectors. He said the injector is leaking or something. Other symptoms include small but noticable presence of gas fumes smell in the cabin when ventilation is turned on. When the engine heats up it is a lot more quite or the noise isn't that chopy, tractor like.
The audio file is here. It was recorded today when the car was sitting still for 8 hours so the engine was cold. Local temperature was about 15 C.

I can't hear the sound, but it could well be the injector fire seal.
The fire seal is the seal at the injector to the cylinder and any leak will leak fumes and noise, you may also notice a mess around the injectors seal that's leaking. Have a look at this topic:
I found the topic you mentioned after I already posted the question.
The mechanic also said that if might be the injector. He said that if it is faulty the new one costs about 300€ + 200€ for refitting. He then added they might be able to rebuild it but they have to see the condition of it.
Are these prices "fair" or am I geeting ripped off?

Injectors are expensive, second hand or reconditioned ones are cheaper, but still not cheap.
If you look at that topic, you can see the work involved. Work out the time it may take and multiply that by the hourly rate the mechanic charges to get to the price.

Thanks for the update. I can assure you they didn't change the head gasket for 224€.
Its going to be the copper seals and the cam cover gasket, as seen in your picture
Its nice to hear it running correctly in your video.
