1.6Hdi VTR lacks power on hills but runs well

Looking for some advice my mother has owned this Citroen 1.6HdiVtr for 10 years now when we bought it it absolutely flew uphills but recently I’ve noticed it hasent the pull it use to have on hills and on flat not as much it does run well but not as fast as it use to be I’ve had a diagnostic put on it and EGR came up I have no fault lights on and EGR has never been cleaned I’m looking at ways I can get full power back but at same time don’t want to create a problem lol is it worth getting EGR cleaned would this help on power or somebody mentioned to me just unplug it and get a remap ?? I’m not sure what’s best

Clean the EGR system would be better.

Unplugging, remapping and finding it still doesn't work will be a waste of time and money.

The cleaning the Citroen C3 EGR topic is here. Although yours is probably an electronic valve, the procedure is very similar.

After cleaning the EGR (inspection for dirt) depending on what you find, test the turbo vane actuation valve on a C3.
