Engine won't turn over. no sound whatsoever. Engine diagnostics warning light on.
Jacked up car but can't see starter motor or trace the leads to it from underneath to check connections.
Have seen a picture of location at rear of engine. I assume other parts are blocking my view. I assume I am looking in the right area.
A mechanic fitted a new starter motor about 6 months ago. Can't get mechanic to look at it till next week.
He suggested that I check the connections. I would much appreciate some guidance.
Thanks

Shows the starter motor from the unusual rear view. You can only get this view of the starter fitted to the engine after the engine has been removed from the car.
But it does a good job of showing the starter motor and solenoid relative to the other parts of the engine.
My first check would be the battery connection and battery charge status before getting under the car.

Thanks dermot,
I found it. As you say, it was hard to get at but connections were all tight. No there is no clicking noise at all. I think starter motor and solinoid and connections can be ruled out. It may be the ignition switch at fault. I don't know how to check that out.
Thanks again for your help.

I wouldn't rule out anything without testing firstdel1000 wrote:I think starter motor and solinoid and connections can be ruled out.
Check for 12v (with a meter, test lamp or something that can detect 12v) at the starter solenoid connection while the key is operated. 2 person job - one to read the meter and one to turn the key.del1000 wrote: It may be the ignition switch at fault. I don't know how to check that out.
There is a fuse in the engine bay fuse box, one of the hidden maxi fuses which protects the ignition switch and solenoid MF7. Its difficult to get to, have a look at this topic for MaxiFuse access, this one for the MaxiFuse box location and these pictures below which show the hidden maxi fuse box
