Hi, my dad used to own an incredible 2002 8v diesel C3 which went to. 192000 before he traded it in due to a bad left hip and he got a C4 1.6 egs, however his hip has been replaced now and the C4 has been nothing but trouble needing a new engine after the turbo cooked all the oil where the turbo bearing broke, so now he can drive a manual again we are looking for a 1.4 hdi again not the 16v though as mine has proven to be quite troublesome in comparison to his, I was just wondering, are the newer 1.4 8v hdi's with the dpf as reliable as the non dpf version? any turbo issues or difference in performance?
We are mainly looking at mk1's as we are aware the mk2 is a lot softer to drive and don't really have the same brilliant handling (not knocking the comfort and refinement of them, it's just we know and love the mk1)
Thanks for any help in advance
PS I already posted this in the buying a C3 area, I just reckon I will get more and better replies on here with peoples experiences with turbos,DPF's and engines on this car, sorry if it's breaking any forum rules.

The DPF doesn't often give trouble if the car is used for normal driving. 'Normal' is not a local taxi or only very short journeys not allowing the engine to fully warm. There are ways to help the DPF regenerate if the driving is not ideal for regeneration. DPF or FAP appears in the 1.6 HDi engine.samstagmoonyham wrote:I was just wondering, are the newer 1.4 8v hdi's with the dpf as reliable as the non dpf version?

sorry for the late reply, though i would post this for any potential readers benift, my dad did 25,000 miles per year in that C4 1.6 egs, not really local runaround driving, a 40 mile commute each way, but the turbo went first, cooked the engine, then later the DPF clogged up etc.etc. sorry, but i think its one of the worst engines ever!Arfur Dent wrote:The DPF doesn't often give trouble if the car is used for normal driving.
