Did you also get the descriptions to the fault codes as given by Lexia?
This would help as the description gives you a clue to the fault.

Hi Adam, thanks for the screen shots, it does make things easier to read.
P0203 - Intermittent fault, Cylinder 3 injector circuit Injection time correction outside limits.

P1163 - Intermittent fault, No resetting by accelerometer - No periodic injector resetting.
These sound very much like they are pointing to a faulty injector. My first test would be a 'leak-off' test, its quite simple but very telling if there is a faulty injector. (Injector no3 would be of interest, but you need to leak-off test them all at the same time).

Leakoff test results as an example:

Hey all,

Ok, finally got round to doing the leak off test. We ran the engine at a continuous 2000RPM (at operating temperature) for a approximately 4 minutes.

No.1 Cyl 25.0ml
No.2 Cyl 34.7ml
No.3 Cyl 63.*ml
No.4 Cyl 32.5ml

* off the scale :(
Citroen C3 leak off testing the injectors
Citroen C3 leak off testing the injectors

I guessing it's 1 to 4 left to right 4 been closest to the flywheel. No.3 Cylinder is faulty from lexia...

I can't take that car off the road, so is it best to obtain a used Injector from a scrap yard and get it overhauled and replace? Or go for £300+ and get a new, seems silly to me but just wanting to know everyone's experience in this matter :)

Many thanks,

Adam :)

Just thinking,
Is it worth checking the injector codes against the codes in lexia?

Cheers,

Adam.

RC3D has some experience in getting injectors refurbished on a 1.4 HDI 8V, the part of his story on injectors is here: Diesel Injector Testing, Repair and Replacement 1.4HDi 8v. New injectors are just too expensive to justify on an older car in my opinion.

I'll recommend Specialist Diesel ltd, very helpful people and professional service
Its worth bearing in mind that all 4 injectors have probably all covered the same mileage, under the same conditions. If one has failed now, will the others go the same way soon? Maybe its worth getting all 4 injectors tested fully, professionally and reconditioned as necessary? Increases the cost, but do you want to have to do the same job 4 times or just once?

to identify which injector is which? yes, they should match up.

Arfur,
Thanks for your time!! What is the part number for these injectors? Is this the correct number EJBR01001A? I'm going to have to save up for all 4, it makes sense.
Also, have I been damaging the engine in any way? At the start of this problem it's been running ok, it can get really rough every now and then but every time it becomes very loud under load and sounds like an old Mk3 Ford Transit.

Adam.

Yes, that number looks familiar, Citroen call the injector with the copper seal as a package - 1980.91 or 198091. You need the copper seal too.

Hello..

I just spent some time with the car this eve and have found some interesting things out.

I assumed the cylinder numbering was 1 to 4, 4 closest to the gear box/flywheel.
I took down the injector numbers from the engine to see if they tired up with the ECU and looking in Lexia No.1 Cylinder is closest to the flywheel. So, that means I have one injector "Cyl-2" with a high leak off not flagging up with codes and an injector "Cyl-3" that seems fine on the leak off test that's coming up with codes. I might swap 2 and 3 round, amend in Lexia and see if it flags up as Cyl-2.. ??

Also, the injector connectors on 1 and 2 have been damaged by the looks some time a go, they clip on to the injectors fine... Having a close look, it looks like the third injector has been out as there is marking on the injector clamp nuts.
Is it easy it replace the injector wire loom on the engine? There is a large connector on the left hand side next to the EGR Pipe, It looks like this connector is for the injector's, mass air flow sensor and cam sensor but I have never seen a connector like it and don't want to brake any thing.

Some guidance would be really appreciated.

Many thanks,

Adam.
