i arrived home yesterday after a short trip and the cooling fan was on i checked the coolant and it was empty so i refilled to discover coolant pouring from the engine on the left hand side anyone suggest what this could be or any ideas where to start.

Welcome to the forum paulh1765
You also have most of the coolant pipes at the rear of the engine, quite difficult to see. They link the water pump to the thermostat.

Engine coolant temperature sensor is attached to the thermostat housing.
As you stand in front of the engine facing it, the water pump is on your left and the thermostat is on your right. thanks turned out to be a cracked thermostat houseing
