Just done my driveshaft and wishbones.

Fired her up but it won't go into any gear, i don't even have to push the clutch down.

Is there some main gear selector that could have popped off?

Ok something is going on, when i engage reverse without the clutch i still get that crunch noise, but still won't move.

So it seems the gears select fine, and i'm sure the clutch is working like it should.

Could something with the driveshaft be causing this?

Sorted it, was the driveshaft don't think it's fully home.

But something inside it is rotating?!

Hmm....

Ok it is the driveshaft, but the bugger is refusing to go home grr.......

I know the drivers is 16v specific, but what about the passenger side or will the 8v one fit?

It's like the teeth are refusing to engage.

The driveshaft should just slide in to the gearbox when the splines are aligned, which is easy to do.

Not by the looks of it.

16v Diesel Left hand driveshaft
ABS, BE 4 GEARBOX 16V DOHC, GEAR BOX MANUAL, Gearbox Splines 24

8v Diesel Left hand driveshaft
MA Gearbox, Transm. Type 68, External Teeth, diff.side 22

The difference in teeth/splines could be a problem :(

Info lifted from the euro car parts website using details of a 2003 16v HDi and a 2003 8v HDi which gives a BE and MA gearbox.

Yup was going to say, the 8v must be ma and 16v be

Had to throw the old one back on for now, sigh see this c3 is new to me, and like any new car there's a learning curve, should have known better but hey ho.

Just need to sort a new shaft, front tyres and a pair of bump stops, got one but i for the life of me couldn't see where it went, another thing i'll have to chase up.

I think i'll stop buying my parts from ebay and just head for my local ecp, least i can send it back if they get it wrong.
