I want to make use of a Citroen C3 instrument cluster in another car - a track day car. Mainly because I like the display.
I have access to another cluster (2006 Citroen C3) and the plug but I need to know what wire does what!
Also, does thus unit rely on any other 'boxes' for its output eg. speedo to ECU ...
Any help would be appreciated. It's very hard to find useful information on this issue so I'm hoping this forum can help.
I'm not saying it's impossible Pete but what your asking isn't easy to do.
Like many cars the humble C3 uses network communications, loads of signals are coded and sent down the same wires.
The car's main ECU (aka the BSI) sorts and sends data from the other ECUs, eg ABS, Engine etc.
This makes life difficult if you want to use the instrument cluster on anything other than a C3.
Early C3s used a system called VAN (Vehicle Area Network) which was not universal across the car industry, it was Citroen and Peugeot only. Later on they switch to CAN (Controller Area Network) which although it is widespread, each manufacturer has their own codes within the system.
Decoding signals from CAN isn't too difficult, there are various black boxes which will do the job, they are sold for interfacing Sat Navs and Audio controls, what it more difficult is creating CAN signals. I've had a go with limited success using a Raspberry Pi based system and interface board.
I'm one of those people who does things just because I'm told they can't be done, I have to say, generating CAN signals was one I gave up on!
A work around solution may be to fit your own display and instruments within the C3 Cluster?
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried
Thanks for the reply. I figured as much - in fact I had that very same conversation with someone at the wrecking yard who seemed to know a little bit about Citroen/Peugeot!
