Which lexia should i get full chip or regular chip

Hi, i am thinking about getting a lexia and i see so many different listings with different prices, the main difference seems to be whether the lexia is full or regular chip and i was wondering what the actual differences between the 2 systems are, does the full chip version have more features, is it faster etc.

also i have set up an oracle virtual box windows XP Professional operating system on my windows 7 home premium laptop, will lexia work with that?

If the Lexia is for your C3 on a 2003 plate, any of the lexia systems listed as full chip or not full chip will be expected to work. Confirm with the vendor so its easy to return it if its not compatible. Its was other models that had problems with non full chip lexia, but the C3 is well covered by either.

The speed of the system is limited by the speed of the BSI and ECUs in the car, lexia runs no faster on a modern Win7 machine than an old XP laptop.

I have not tried the oracle virtual box, but the one from microsoft does work. Your biggest problem is probably going to be getting the USB drivers for the lexia box working correctly in the virtual environment, so check this is working before searching elsewhere.

Hi Arfur, thank you for the help, i knew i should have come here first instead of trying to talk to those dopey ebay sellers, so the full chip is just to fix models that couldnt be detected then?, i dont know if you would know about this but is the mk1 C4 also covered by the regular chip? as my dad is thinking about switching his 52 plate C3 for a C4 with Egs Gearbox, i know its not exactly a C3 question its just i dont want to have to buy another, more expensive one in the future.

I didnt think it would be particularly fast as i am really just emulating windows XP through windows 7, if i had an XP laptop i would use that but sadly i dont .

I think it is, as the C3 and C4 electronics are almost identical. It was some Citroen C5 and Peugeot 307 models at would have trouble with some of the hardware that lacked all the chips.

But if you are thinking about future cars, I suggest you go for a most up to date (rev C) lexia box so you are much better covered in the future for Citroen and Peugeot models. The Rev C are compatible with much later (2010+) cars that require more recent software.
