Hi guys, just parking car up on our drive tonight and as we turned the car this fell from front passenger side wheel area, the suspension looks very low on this wheel so something to do with this. I have attached the pictures of the round metal object let fell, it looks as if it snapped but I didn't hear any type of snapping noise.

your coil spring has snapped unfortunately, this is quite common on c3's i'm afraid. citroen recalled early c3's to fit a cup to catch the broken pieces of spring to stop damage to the wheel and other components00James00 wrote:Hi guys, just parking car up on our drive tonight and as we turned the car this fell from front passenger side wheel area, the suspension looks very low on this wheel so something to do with this. when the spring on my dad's C3 snapped, he didn't hear any noise either and said the handling didn't really change either but obviously it is still not safe, fortunately, its not a particularly expensive job for a garage to do or as long as you have the right equipment at home its an ok diy job

I would say if you didn't know what it was then you should not be doing this job yourselfsamstagmoonyham wrote: its not a particularly expensive job for a garage to do or as long as you have the right equipment at home its an ok diy job

If you get it changed, get both sides done at the same time so the car sits and handles in a balanced way.

has anyone on this forum tried to stop the spring issue by fitting aftermarket springs or even coilovers, i'm not sure you can really improve on the C3's handling that much anyway, but they may be less susceptible to snapping than the OE springs?Arfur Dent wrote:I would say if you didn't know what it was then you should not be doing this job yourselfsamstagmoonyham wrote: its not a particularly expensive job for a garage to do or as long as you have the right equipment at home its an ok diy job

it shouldn't be much to get them done if you want to give it one last chance00James00 wrote:Well I think this could possibly be a white flag for me and stop throwing money as it. Just seems to be one problem after another lol. Thanks guys for everything

I know I'm just now thinking that once there done something else will go, the list of problems this has had and it past an mot with no advisory just goes to show how corrupt some garages can be.

I don't know what other faults you've had, but if it's now just springs, I'd tend get them done if I was in your boots. Roads springs are a common failure these day due to our crap roads, I've no idea what type they are progressive rate or just a standard spring, but very often there's a huge difference in price between OE & aftermarket, after market are often cheaper becaue they're made cheaply. eg Vauxhall wanted something like £160 for a pair of rear springs for a previous car (Astra G) of EmilysMum's, aftrmarket were less than £40 ...... but there was probably £120's worth of difference/quality00James00 wrote:To be honest it's been my own fault I jumped into buying this without fully looking into it lol just think this is the final straw haha
