Hi guys, could do with some insider knowledge here. We just bought an 05 C3 lx and have had all the brakes replaced, cylinder at back and discs at front all needed replacing.
We also decided to get the back tyres replaced but after leaving the tyre centre a gong has started, when ignition is turned on and while engine is running, there is no indication on the display to let us know what it is trying to warn us about, i originally thought it might have been due to low petrol but then the petrol light came on too which has a different alarm.
any ideas?

Hi Jaspa

The first thing I would check is that all the warning lights on the dash and the centre display are working. The lights should come on with the ignition and the centre display will show time/date or possibly other message.

The chimes are nearly always alerting you to a warning, either a warning light or message. It wouldn't be the first time that a warning light or message display has be nobbled so that's the first thing to eliminate.

The manual is not much help here. I did a search for 'gong' and it only appears once in my 2007 C3 manual and it relates to the over-speed sensor. I am sure it must be used for other warnings too though.

Citroen C3 overspeed alarm
Citroen C3 overspeed alarm
from the manual wrote:Overspeed alert

Function for keeping to a desired maximum speed.
A short press on control E activates this function (the warning lamp lights up).
To pre-set or modify the desired alert speed, when you have reached this speed, give a long press on control E (located on the dashboard central panel) until you hear a confirmation gong.
An audible signal indicates that the programmed speed is being exceeded.

To cancel
Give another short press on control E to deactivate this function (the warning lamp goes out).
Note: The overspeed alert only functions for speeds above around 30 km/h
(around 18 mph).

think i've sorted it now, whilst looking for an ignition feed for the stereo i noticed that the speed warning indication button had been accidentally turned on. that has stopped the gong but finding an ignition feed is proving more difficult...pin 4 as suggested on other posts seems to do nothing so i'm having to uses a permanent live for now until i can get to the cigarette lighter wiring ...humph, i hate being out manouevered by a care

Great! Wiring to the cigarette lighter is not too difficult to get at :)

OK seems like this is going to be a topic change...I have never been defeated by a car stereo before but this car's wiring appears to have a mind of it's own. I have now hooked up to the cigarette lighter feed and all is well until i leave the car for more than a few minutes, the central locking is now fully functional but the permanent live seems to go dead after 5 or so minutes of turning off the ignition, if i turn off the ignition and lock the car, then get straight back in it has remembered all of the settings but any more than that and the stereo has to be switched back on and i'm back to track 1 of the CD with flat bass and treble, any ideas...I can't lose any more hair

That should be fairly simple to fix. In the connector from the vehicles wiring harness there are two lives, one is permanent and the other is switched by the cars BSI (computer). The latter comes on when the car is unlocked and goes off a few minutes after locking.

All you need to do is find the permanent live. If you've used a wiring adaptor it may already have a means to change the live connections over. Leave your switched live connected as is. On most harnesses the two lives are coloured red and yellow, if that is the case and you're using the red as your permanent live, use the yellow or vica versa.

I've already tried that, the yellow wire is the permanent live that I'm using but it doesn't stay live after the ignition has been turned off for over 5 mins, the other one (red one) is only live when the ignition is on. These are the only two lives in the wiring harness so my problem is how to make the yellow wire stay live after 5 mins when the computer has done a sweep

Do you know if your car is pre or post facelift? The radio wiring changed with the update.

Alternatively can you post a picture of the radio connector on the car's wiring?
