replacing boot latch on a citroen c3 desire 54 plate does not always open are they easy to change will it just be the switch

It depends on what has failed. The boot unlocking is controlled by the BSI. So it could be the BSI, the wiring to and from it connecting to the switch and the solenoid.

Both the switch and solenoid are not too tricky to remove if you have the boot open.
