Hi all

Citroen have confirmed that my power steering ECU needs replacing at a cost of £1,000+, because my power steering keeps failing and the car makes these strange noises when I turn the wheel at low speeds. :(

I just wanted to ask a couple of quick questions about it.

1. Could I buy another ECU, say off Ebay with the exact same part number and model? Would it be "plug and play" or would it need re-programming?
2. Is it true that Citroen, in their ultimate wisdom, actually replace not only the ECU, but the steering Rack and motor and not just the defective part?
3. Any advice on the cheapest way to fix this problem would be brilliant.

Thank you very much

David.

Hi David,

Yes, you can buy one from ebay, try this link to EPAS ECUs on ebay and it is just plug and play, no programming required.

Because the steering motor can kill off the ECU, citroen will change both at the same time to avoid damaging a good part with a bad one.

But, your cheapest way would be to just change the EPAS ECU (with one from here) and it won't cost much if the rack motor blows up the ECU - it probably won't but Citroen don't want any extra costs because they have to use brand new parts, where you don't.

It would be great to hear how you get on :)
