Hi All
Wife has a 2010 C3 Picasso (HDI) with a power steering fault message on the dash.
A local indie tried two readers (one was Snap-on), both of which couldn't establish a connection with the car.
A third which operated through a small laptop, did connect, and came up with a "P0606" code and "Power Steering ECU internal fault - Permanent"
Unfortunately he wasn't able to spend any more time on it and is booked up for a few days - so in the meantime can anyone please tell me where this ECU is physically located on this model?
TIA for any assistance.

On a C3 its behind the battery, as arrowed in this picture
It would be worth a look there.
The Citroen way of dealing with the ePAS ECU is to change the ECU and the Rack (which has the motor) both at the same time as a fault on one can cause or show a fault on the other

If you want to read codes correctly and get the correct description, use a late version of lexia tool as seen here.

Thanks for the reply C3driver52
A bit of further investigation may help someone in future - on the 2010 model the module is beside the motor on the rack itself! There are two more maxi fuses and some other gubbins (not sure what) behind the battery. See the rack on this ebay ad:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-Citroen- ... Sw7FRWYbza
My local Citroen Parts dept confirmed this, and quoted a replacement ecu for £207, with a rack costing £740 - both plus VAT and labour.
With Euro C P quoting £312 for the rack, this is the route I'll probably take.
Would you know if the new set up will need programmed to the car or is it plug and play?
Thanks Again

No problem, thanks for the info on where it actually is on the new C3 picassoAuldGit wrote:Thanks for the reply C3driver52
There is an discount code for ECU if you follow this link to their site Euro Car Parts (with discount) and use our code at the checkoutAuldGit wrote:With Euro C P quoting £312 for the rack, this is the route I'll probably take.

It will help shave a few pounds off the cost

I do know that the C3 doesn't require any programming when replacing the Electronic Power Steering ECU, but I don't have any experience with the new picassoAuldGit wrote:Would you know if the new set up will need programmed to the car or is it plug and play?

Before spending all the money, it would be very helpful to get a second opinion or at least a more definite 'the rack or ecu is faulty' because the error codes and screen messages are just a guide.

Just an update on this problem - I fitted a new rack and all is fine again.
No programming required, plug and play so to speak.
Wasn't as complicated as I was expecting, although I did have access to full garage equipment ie two post ramp, gearbox jack etc
Having said that, it certainly isn't a job for the drive or domestic garage - the subframe needs dropped and the antiroll bar undone and pulled back to give access.
Thanks for the discount link C3driver52 - unfortunately I had bought the rack before I read it!!!!!! Oh well, I'll know for next time.
Cheers

Thanks for the extra information on how to go about doing the steering rack and ePAS ECU swap.AuldGit wrote:Just an update on this problem - I fitted a new rack and all is fine again.

My C3 Picasso had the same problem.
Browsing through these forums, I asked the garage to start with the small things and work their way from cheap to expensive parts.
Readout read "fault in steering rack" apparently, fuse was OK but after battery replacement the problem was gone (for now?).
Lesson: don't automatically assume it's the rack!

So true Garion. These codes and messages are only a guide. They need some proper diagnostics and testing to prove what is faulty before paying out for expensive parts and labour costs.Garion wrote:Lesson: don't automatically assume it's the rack!
You can do a fair bit of diagnosis with the Lexia/Diagbox tool (info here) on all the Citroen models.
