This ought to be the easiest job imaginable, but I just can't make sense of it. I've removed the rubber rain shield and now I'm supposed to 'Remove the protective plastic cover by pulling on the tab'.
But what tab?
There isn't one.
I've been feeling all around the plastic cover for something either to pull, push or squeeze, but there's absolutely nothing. The plastic wobbles a bit but that's all. I've pulled as hard as I dare without breaking something but I simply can't shift it.

Hello PJS54
You remove the rubber rain shield by pulling on the tab, now the rain shield is off.
Then rotate the plastic lamp carrier a quarter turn for the one you want to change. This will disengage the locking and the lamp carrier can be removed.
You can then replace the lamp.

Thanks for the reply, but I had it solved a few minutes ago, courtesy of the very helpful chap at Zero Limits in Bourne, where I bought the replacement bulb. There was no physical manual supplied with the car but I downloaded the one that is supposed to be relevant to my 2006 model. The manual is extremely misleading because it refers to a plastic cover, which appeared to be a hard plastic cap protecting the back of the wiring plug. There is no mention of the rubber rain shields at all. As you said, it simply requires a simple counter-clockwise turn to release it, complete with the bulb. there was no wire spring clip as described in some of the YouTube videos, which don't help much at all.

Your car bio says you have
2015 C3 Picasso lamp removal from the manual says
and not a 2006 so this will only serve to confuse those here.Year: 2015 (15)
2015 C3 Picasso lamp removal from the manual says
Remove the protective plastic cover by pulling on the tab.
Turn the bulb-holder by a quarter turn.
Remove the bulb and change it.
To refit, carry out these operations in reverse order.

I can't believe I actually typed 2006 and can't think why. It is indeed a 2015 BlueHDi model.
There are no plastic covers - they are all rubber and they have no tabs on them. The illustration looked a similar shape to the black plastic connector; it looked bigger, but I assumed that must have been purely for illustration purposes.

I am glad we got that cleared-up

Thanks for the information.
I am sure others with a 2015 C3 Picasso with a headlamp to change will find this a real time saver
