Hi,

I purchased a 2006, C3 diesel privately here in France two days ago. Two questions :

It's done 230,000km and from the service record, it was a reps car from 2006 to 2010 and regularly serviced. When the previous owner purchased the car in 2010 it was given a service and the cam belt changed. Since 2010 it's done 50,000km and I don't think has been serviced. Obviously I'm going to get it serviced but should I consider getting the cam belt etc changed or am I being over cautious? (My Renault Megane threw it's belt last week and lunched the engine, hence my concern)

On the dashboard, under the radio all the buttons are blanks bar one, which has a rev counter dial with an arrow. I think this relates to speed limit setting but I know this model hasn't such a feature.....am I missing something or is it there just for show?

Hi Pete. I would have thought that if the button was there, it would work. Its not a speed control, its just an alarm which can be pre-set to sound at a certain speed. To set it, when your speed is at whatever you want to set the alarm for, press and hold the button. A short press turns the feature on and off. When your speed exceeds the pre-set it should trigger a chime.

I'll leave the timing belt part for one of the mechanical experts.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all the evidence and pretend you never tried

Citroen says the HDi engine needs its cam belt changed every 150 000 Miles, which is 240 000Km.

Haynes says do it more often, 80 000 miles (120 000Km).

I would add, at least every 10 years.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. The car has done 50,000km since the cam belt was changed so even by Haynes more cautious estimate it should be ok for the next 50,000km. I'll still have a word with my mechanic though, possibly have a service now and change the cambelt etc. before the Winter.

Incidentally I was pleased I'd got all the change of owner paperwork underway and sorted the insurance yesterday as I was stopped in town by the Gendarmes for a spot breathalyser test. I passed fine, as I make it a rule never to have even one drink and drive.
