Hi,
For some time now we've noticed a tapping/rattling noise, which sometimes gets loud at speed - coming from the driver's side of the dashboard. It sounded like someone waving a piece of plastic cable inside a piece of guttering! Plastic on plastic.
Today we noticed that a piece of windscreen trim had come loose - it isn't noticeable when the car is moving and this might be the culprit, it's certainly in the right place to explain the noise.
On closer inspection there seems to be some self-adhesive tape underneath the trim - but it doesn't look like the protective cover strip has ever been removed, as if it was never stuck down from new! Before I go ahead and clean up the bodywork, remove the plastic cover from the adhesive strip and stick the trim back down - does it sound like I'm doing the right thing? I'm just bemused at the self-adhesive strip still having the cover on. Photo attached.
Thanks,
Steve

It may not even be the first windscreen it had from the factory and the fitter didn't peel the backing.
The glues used need a very clean surface to work properly.
