Hi

Newbie here looking for some advise.
Recently purchased a 2006 1.6 Diesel C3
Between 1000-1500 revs there is a vibrating noise coming from the car.
It seems to be towards the drivers side under the bonnet. It's a loud low sound like something is knocking/vibrating together.
I've taken it back to the garage I've bought it from, and am being told this is synonymous with C3's ?
Can anyone shed some light on what causes this issue, and if so is there a fix ?
It's very frustrating and an issue I would like to resolve.

Thanks in advance

It could easily be the TVD (crank pulley), common problem gives a knocking sound that increases in rate as RPM increases.

This video tries to show the sound over the diesel knock sound.

But without hearing it myself, its difficult to be sure from a description. Its easy enough to repair, just change the crank pulley.

This topic is about the crank pulley problem

Euro car parts have the cranshaft pulley for a 1.6 HDi C3 here.

thanks, will take a look

If it helps, It does not make this noise if you rev the car when it's stationary, only when your driving and only between 1000-1500
Before/after this point then it's not there :?: If you drive along in 1st/2nd around 10mph then it's there above the general engine noise.
I appericate it's difficult to describe noise, but it does sound like a humming/vibrating noise, as though some of the plastic casing is loose/making contact with something
I've taken a look and can't see anything obvious under the bonnet. Have carried out the token goolge search but can't find anything that sounds similar. When the garage implied this this was common with C3's then I thought I would ask the question.

Cheers

If its dependent on the road speed, maybe a wheel bearing going bad.
jaxxs wrote:but it does sound like a humming/vibrating noise,
Wheel bearings could make a vibrating/humming noise that is dependent and varies with road speed and may change sound when changing direction.

Its not a common one that I have had or know of to hand. If the garage knows its common, its a shame they don't know the common cause :(
