Hi all! I'm really glad to have come across this forum - I've picked up so many useful tips already!
Anyway, I've decided to post in the hope that one of you fine experts out there could assist me.
My wife recently purchased a 2002 C3 1litre SX, 55,000. It was immaculate, inside and out, with a FSH, MoT etc.
There is a small problem with the spare key having a flat battery and necessitating a reprogramming, but I've found Arfur Dent's really useful post on that procedure and will give it a go tomorrow.
Anyway, what bothers me most about it is the high biting point of the clutch - you lift your foot up and up - nothing - right before you think the pedal has no more movement it engages, but really gently. To be honest, I've driven many cars, and I know they all have varying degrees of bite that you quickly get used to, but I've never experienced anything like this. A real nuisance, especially on hill starts.
I wouldn't have thought that the clutch is ready to be changed yet as there is no slippage; it pulls cleanly when accelerating; allows clean, tidy gear changes; and the mileage is low (although that obviously depends on previous drivers).

Have any of you experienced the same? If so, is there something that can be adjusted on the line or pedal? Or does it sound like professional help should be sought (and roughly, how much?! ;) )

My deep gratitude for your sage advice in advance!

Welcome to the forum Valroche.

I am glad you found some bits of the C3 forum useful.

The clutch is hydraulic and self adjusting, so there is no tweaking to be done there.

The clutch on my early model C3 is quite high, possibly not as high as you describe, but maybe I just got use to it. The clutch pedals are very soft, feather like on the C3.

High clutch biting point seems to be a common concern from new C3 owners and the reassurance seems to be the same "the Citroen C3 has a high clutch biting point"

Probably not what you wanted to hear?

Good luck with the key paring.

It has to be said, I'm driving one of the same age as yours as a first car, and after a year or so spent driving others' cars (such as my driving instructor's 2011 Fiesta, my mum's 2000 Fiat Multipla and a mate's Saxo VXR), I never really noted the C3 having a high biting point much. My clutch was changed not a month before I bought it, so it feels pretty much how a new one would feel - hopefully it's just a design difference as opposed to a sublime sign of wear!
