The old shape car has the 4 fuses (2 main beam and 2 dip beam) in the engine bay fuse box, I would look at the 4 fuses 15,16,17 and 18 in the engine bay fuse box of the 2007 car.

They are not labelled in the manual, not sure why, but they look like the prime suspects.

If the 4 turn out to be for the headlights, if you could determine which is which, it would be a great to update fuse box the diagram.

The 4 beige cluster in the picture are (from left to right) numbered 18,17,16 and 15. There is no mention of fuse rating.
The 4 fuses 15-18 are the ones you are looking for, the image has now been updated and the descriptions for the fuse ratings are here.

A rather obvious tip, but worth mentioning. If you fit a new fuse to replace one thats blown, and it still doesn't work. Take out the fuse and inspect it. If its blown, you have a short. Probably the bulb electrical connection is not fitted correctly.

My dad recently asked me to look at his car as one of the dipped headlights wouldn't work. We changed the bulb assuming it was a blown bulb which didn't fix it. I checked all fuses in the engine bay fuse box and all were fine.

Is there a relay associated with the dipped headlight function? If so where is it located?

Thanks in advance

Hi R35-Mark, the relay control is in the BSM unit (the engine bay fuse box) and they are not replaceable. You can't even get at them.

How did you test the fuse?

And on a A51 new shape car, which fuse did you test?

Thanks Arfur Dent for your comment.

I checked the fuses with a multi-meter and also swapped them around as I knew one of them was definitely okay and in doing so proved both were fine.

I pulled all the connectors in the fusebox as well and there was a fair bit of moisture in the middle unit which I cleaned up and dried out. Not sure how the moisture got in as there are no signs of ingress.

No problem. That is the best way to test them, with a meter. Swapping can help as long as there is a supply of spare fuses available ;)

For a 2010 car, I have:
15. Right hand main beam (10A)
16. Left hand main beam (10A)
17. Left hand dip beam (15A)
18. Right hand dipped beam (15A)
(but its worth checking them all as manuals are know to be wrong at times)

If your dipped fuse is ok, and you have double checked the lamp with your meter and you are checking the correct fuse and lamp for the one that is not working, you will be looking at changing the BSM module :(

Thanks again Arfur and yes I went to the trouble of checking every fuse in the box. LOL. Just in case.

How do I resolve this? Is it a complete replacement BSM unit? That won't be cheap if it is. :(
