Hi all.
Help!
My off side headlamp adjustment motor decided to constantly try and move.
I have a car that screeches every moment the headlights are on.
The plastic cogs just behind the headlight assembly address free (used an Allen key), Tried removing the fuse but as you will that put the headlight out as well!
Argh.
Thanks for any help.
Steve

I'm newbie but would suggest to use contact cleaner on the electrical plug to the motor.
how does it react when you change the height setting on board?

Would try that but can't get to it.
Tried every setting but wherever I put it, it still screeches like mad.

sorry didnt undertood initially the squeeching part of the issue.
just checked mine and in makes a lot of noise when moving the headlight but doesnt move the fine tuning knob of the lights
so I suppose the motor gear must be either stuck inside or even some gear broken, I suppose if you use some rubber mallet on the electric motor and lightly beat it while squeeching may help it to unstuck
´
not sure if the is some dedicated relay for it or not, maybe someone in the forum will be able to tell us
there is a big plug connected to the whole assembly with several wires, would try to disconnect it and clean it with contact spray, also try to disconnect the car battery for 10 mns, reconnect it and wait 5 mns more, close with key, open with key fob and close and open again, turn key on ignition and wait 1 mn or two before starting the engine, with it you will do some type of reset on the car.
last resource before getting a new unit would be disassemble the installed one and check it inside
good luck

Hello with the regard as it being off side drivers light are you 100% certain its not the alternator belt?? as putting the lights on causes extra load to be put through the alternator thus making the belt slip and screech! also try not turning the lights on but put heated rear window, hazards, stereo, heater this may help testing the auxiliary belt. also down that side is the air con compressor so that s something else to check. hope this helps.

You may have a short on the motor caused by water in the headlight
This is the C3 water in the headlights topic and drying it out maybe enough to fix it?

I think it must be the motor as when I remove the headlight fuse a) the headlight goes out AND the noise stops.
