I can find the fixed points for roof bars under a roof strip - all of the online help says there are trap doors in the strip but it doesn’t have those - is just one continuous strip - any help / ideas on how to fix the roof bars ?
I fitted roof bars recently to my 2012 car.....
Having read up I found you need the strips that come with the roof bars and all the fixings..
When I brought mine the seller did not realise this or I would not have had the fixings....
you have to pull the whole strip out and replace it with the one with cut outs..... I think if you really wanted you could modify the original strips but it would need a bit of care and some accurate measuring.... you could probably get away with round holes cut with a hole cutter... as the mounting arts are covered by the plastic covers.
Some one has probably mentioned you have to remove the bolts underneath the strips one by one replacing each one in turn, with the double threaded ones specifically for the roof bars... the reason being there is a metal plate they screw into that would drop into the roof if you took two out at the same time.. I used a little thread lock too. also note a good quality star drive may be needed as these are held in with "thread lock" I borrowed my mates Britool set (other quality star drives are available).
I used the "two nut" technique to tighten them up....
Then once all the new studs are in fit the Roof bar strip and then the roof bars (they are handed) and finally the end plastic covers (they are marked LFront or rear or something like that)....
Job done....
