Hi Skyman,
from personal experience you'll be very very lucky to get it repaired, and a novice has no chance of repairing it as explained to me the best you can hope for is to get another ECU and have the chipset transferred. With mine the ECU was spiked and the chipset was corrupted, my only chance then was a new one from citroen and have them download all the data (very expensive). Another option is to buy a used ECU set, comprising, ECU, BSI and Key fob, But they MUST come from the same car as they will be a coded set and will work, But you will need to get the injectors coded to the new ECU,( easily done using LEXIA). The ECU, BSI are easy to swap over as well, just unplug the multi pin plugs swap the parts and plug them back in, the only problem is getting a good ECU kit as some places will send you the bits from different cars and then say they have to be configured BUT! a used ECU CANNOT be coded to the BSI. I hope I've not put you off as these are great little cars, just be careful what you decide as it depends whether the chipset has been corrupted or not

Hi Skyman,
Petrol and Diesel don't mix.
The ECU kit must be identical to the one on you're car, as its the 1.4 16v HDI (engine code 8HY ) its definitely a DELPHI system.
I suggest you read other threads on this site about, Disconnecting and Reconnecting the Battery, or the BSI could get damaged.
Removing and installing the engine ECU.
Removing and installing the BSI.
also, there's always someone willing to help and although it might take longer to get the job done it often work's out a lot cheaper. Electrics are a pain and usually takes time and patience to sort out, so don't be afraid to ask

up date on ecu
got a ecu kit of ebay came today 24/8/16 started to take the old one out got to the bsi unit to the right of the battery just lifting it out when spotted some heavy duty fuses under it on lifting it out found a 40 amp maxi fuse had blown. quick trip to halfords new one bought and fitted all put back and hay presto car fired up. so never assume its the ecu till all fuses are found and looked at
