If you have the new pins - the bits that hold the 2 halves of the hinges together - then just use the hinges you have on the new door and just change the hinge pins first. Is easier to do the hinge pins while the door is still off the car. As for the check strap, you won't know if the one on the new door is any good until you actually fit it - but its not a problem swapping them from old door to new door if the new one is no good.00James00 wrote:Got new bolts and got an extra person to help. Here a pic of new door and what's on it, would the best way to be to take hinges of old door and just stick new one on including hinges.

How do I get the old hinge pins off? And will the new pins need any lubrication

Yes, lubricate with some white lithium grease like this and you can use this on the bonnet catch, rear door hinges, boot hinges, bonnet hinges and any other parts where you get metal to metal contact on the body. To remove them it looks like you need to pop off the clip and then tap the pin out with a hammer. You may find it easier to use a scrap bit of metal bar or extension bar to get better access. Put one end of the bar on the pin and strike the other end with the hammer.00James00 wrote:How do I get the old hinge pins off? And will the new pins need any lubrication
So much easier to do with the door off the car.

Hi, managed to transfer doors open, now have a working lock a non wonky door and a fixed window. There's 2 main plugs for electronics that plug into car from door I have attached a photo can someone tell me what the green plug is for as the replacement door has a complete different fitting so I could not plug this in. I'm hoping it's just for heated mirrors which my car does not have as tested radio, window up and down, and motor for mirror and they all work fine. Also there's a banging noise when closing and opening the door which is coming from the little metal hinge which opens door to certain point. Do you think it just needs lubrucating, it clicks around 3 times before door closes

It sounds like the check strap. They do make that noise and lubricating dosen't do much good in the long term.00James00 wrote:Also there's a banging noise when closing and opening the door which is coming from the little metal hinge which opens door to certain point. Have a look at this topic for door check straps on a C3

Its best to just buy a new one than try to repair the one that's seized, but you also have one on the spare door

I think you have everything on the door tested if the remote locking works. If its all working I wouldn't worry about trying to fit things that don't fit together, together00James00 wrote:I'm hoping it's just for heated mirrors which my car does not have as tested radio, window up and down, and motor for mirror and they all work fine.

On my old door the bearing inside door are greasy and the other door I have put on they are not. Just bought some wd40 lithium spray to try as they did not have the grease

Yes, door check straps make a bang, bang, bang as the door closes or opens.00James00 wrote:Hi I'v tried both check straps and they both do the same it sounds as if noise is coming from inside the door in which the check straps fit into
2 bad check straps, they do fail at around 80k to 100k depending on usage and maintenance, you can try lubing them up, but it doesn't do much good for very long.00James00 wrote:Hi I'v tried both check straps and they both do the same it sounds as if noise is coming from inside the door in which the check straps fit into
