Hello all, first post here.
I have a 2007 c3 and I was wondering how to remove the cowl air intake grille. I can access it by removing the top grille and I managed to release the clip holding on to the fender but it just slids left or right. I didnt wat to force it. Is there anything else than the wiper motor underneath ? Reason I'm asking is I thought maybe I could place in some sound dampening material so it may help reduce the engine noise. So basically what I'm realy trying to achieve is to reduce the engine noise :) any ideas / suggestions?

all I can think of is firewall, archwheel maybe around the cowl air intake and some type of insulation under the carpet. Not even sure if it'll help though. Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Bill

Hello ucinb

Your engine type you have listed is not known for being noisy. If you have excessive engine noise, maybe investigate where the sound is coming from.

You have a high mileage and with this comes worn engine mounts, have all these been replaced yet?

TVD can fail and this should be changed with the cam belt, is it the TVD knocking?

Injector seals can fail that cause a 'chuffing', are the seals 'chuffing'?

This is a chuffing C3 diesel:

Yes, the pollen filter and the alarm sounder.

Hello Citroen-Driver and thanks for your reply.

The engine runs very smooth and despite the mileage (114.000KM) I have no complaints. The engine mounts are a bit worn but it doesn’t shake the engine. I'll have it replaced sometime this year. The noise I’m referring to is more of the regular care noise that you hear with windows closed and traveling at 90-110KM speed(not the wind noise but the regular engine running are high rpm) So I'm thinking of using some sort of sound dampening material to reduce that. Given the cars age and probably not the best soundproofing at the time of manufacturing, I believe this could be solved. I just don’t know where to start. That’s why I figured maybe I could place some sound dampening material underneath the cowl intake as there is not much room between the engine and firewall.

Well, you could start at the point you think is not up to modern standards. That being the existing places there are sound deadening materials. There are none in the photo I posted.

You should be looking from inside the car, behind the dashboard, behind the pedals, and all of that area between the cabin and the engine.

I would start by removing the carpeting, the glove box and the easy to remove plastics of the dashboard (under the steering wheel).

The area I drew around is easily removed to get better access to the carpet behind the pedal box

With the plastics removed and the carpet out of the way, you can then cover the firewall/bulkhead in this sound deadening material.

Take some pictures along the way, so others can see how you did the sound proofing mod :)
