Welcome to the forum seethree!

6239w8 (6239 w8 or 6239.w8) are Citroen dealer numbers found in SEDRE SYSTEM you will need the 8 digit number, sometimes with 2 alpha character at the end like 'XT' or 'ZL'. The long number is the one on a sticker attached to the com2000 unit. Remove the steering column cowling and have a good look to see a sticker or white printing with your number on it.

Have a look at Citroen C3 COM2000 for some pictures.

I am not even sure they make new ones for a 2002/2003 car, but good luck as this sounds very expensive :(

Some COM2000 can be repaired - ask Emma/Graeme on eBay if yours can be repaired.

the radio station changer extra bit on the right end
is citroen part 6239S0, an optional extra which can be removed easily (one screw) and refitted to other compatible units. Keep your 6239S0 from the old COM 2000 just in case you need to fit it to your replacement unit.

Its quick to remove the top cowling to get access to the part numbers but changing the COM2000 is more involved because you need to remove the air bag and then the steering wheel.

some tips for airbag and com2002 removal topic.
