The car has done 55,500 miles how difficult is it to change the clutch,to let you know I wouldn't be doing it until the summer just thought I would ask

It is very time consuming to change the clutch. Difficult? That would depend on your skills and access to a four post lift and a transmission jack. You could do it without, but that would take even more time.
55K is very low for a clutch to fail, so you probably have a fault that would need attending to while the gearbox is off.
I would highly recommend the C3 haynes manual (from here) if you are thinking of doing the clutch on the HDi because it can give you an insight into what needs to be done before you start and the guidance to complete the job.
You can get the full clutch kit for the 1.4 HDi 2004 C3 from ECP (here).
