Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to swap my manual climate control unit (the one with the knobs) to an automatic climate control unit (digital). Obviously I would have to source a working climate control unit, but would it be possible or are there integral parts missing for the automatic unit to function?

While theoretically possible, it might not be practical.
The only economic way is to salvage parts from a wrecked C3.
Both the manual and digital controller have a lot in common. Power for the fan and the evaporator temp probe wires are common. Digital and manual send temp requests via a 'bus'.
However there may be CAN and VAN versions of the digital controller (sorry but I'm not sure about that).
The digital controller has a temperature 'sniffer' in the dash. You would need to check if you have the 'sniffer' plug behind the grill, below and to the right of the radio (below the square buttons).
You will need to salvage the wiring harness from the air distribution box. Salvage the fan speed controller. Salvage the 3 control servos (and the mounting screws). Salvage the digital controller.
