Hi, I have a problem with the central locking on my 2015 C3 II VTi 82. The central locking mechanism doesn't seem to be working when I use the key fob. The locks click twice and the doors remain open. When I turn on the ignition, the dash displays "boot open" and the red warning light displays in the speed gauge.

Things I've tried:
  • When I'm in the car and I press the button on the dash, all doors lock (including the boot).
  • Checked backup light, that works
  • Checked license plate lights, those work
  • Checked rear lights, those work
  • I checked the positive terminal of the car's battery with the ground of the car and it's showing normal voltage.
  • Resetting the state of the doors by opening all doors + boot, turning on the ignition, closing them all again and retrying the key fob. Whenever this problem occurred in the past, this mitigated it and allowed locking with the key fob.
Does the central locking mechanism triggered by the dash lock button ignore the state of the boot? Where is the sensor that detects whether the boot is open or closed? Could you guys point me in the right direction for troubleshooting this issue?

Hi

The doors won't lock if one of the doors (or boot) is open (or seen by the BSI as open).

This is the doors remain open, the boot is stopping the car from locking.

You may have a mechanical problem or an electrical problem with the boot latch, but I would think your problem is with that and the central locking will sort itself out if you can fix the boot.

I don't know if its electrical or mechanical, you may have to investigate to see if you can lock it and unlock it with the boot open by simulating the closing process with a screwdriver, test the switch or just try to change the whole thing.

So, I took your advice and tested the latch mechanism with a screwdriver.

This is the normal state (1), when the boot is opened:

Pushing up with a screwdriver leads to this state (2), where the dash displays "boot open":

And pushing it up even further leads to this state (3), where the dash display no longer displays "boot open":

I tried closing the boot forcefully, and I think I managed to trigger state 3 doing that. Now the key fob closes all doors again! Thanks! Would this be resolved by just replacing the locking mechanism like you suggested?

It is only an idea. but I think we are on the right track.

You can change the part and if it works, great 8-)

If it doesn't work then we know it's not that and need to look further.

It is well worth trying as you managed to force it the work and the message clears.
