Believe it or not I think it's supposed to do that. I believe it's to do with the fact that its not being locked/unlocked by the fob but I'm not sure. The BSI powers down after 60 seconds so I'd say that has something to do with the door locking cycle. I know you meant a figurative "5 minutes" but you'll find it's closer to 60 seconds. You'll be able to hear a quite audible click from the glove box when the BSI powers down.
I have never heard of this before but it makes sense as a "fail safe" if your fob stops working. There are manual locking devises in each of the doors in case the battery fails but I never thought what you would do if just the fob failed? I've owned a C2 for 15 years (only just picked up two C3's) and never come across this. Interesting.
What is your regiment for locking the car when you are not in it?
It's good to know that's a feature and not a fault. I was starting to think I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I currently get out and lock the doors manually with the catch inside the doors. A bit of a pain but it gets the job done until I can fix the car. I've got a Haynes manual ordered and a key fob tester so I should know soon if the fault lies with the key fob or with the car. I'll update this thread as I find out more in case anyone else has a similar issue.
You could just take the key to Timpson's, who would probably test you fob for nothing.

Update: I've used a key fob tester and the fob is sending out an RF signal. I've attempted to resync the key multiple times with no success. My Haynes manual suggests this is a bsi issue and the car should be taken to a Citroen dealer to be inspected. I'm booking it in for a diagnostic in a few days but was wondering if anyone has any last ideas for a last diy solution I can try?

Side note: the door handle came off today. Whipped out my Haynes manual, figured out where the catch was inside the door and fashioned a "tool" from a coathanger supplied by a charity shop. Managed to get the door open again.

It's unlikely (but not impossible) that it's the BSI.
1) The doors lock from the dash button. If the door lock relays had gone (not uncommon) you wouldn't be able to lock/unlock the doors at all.
2) I am assuming that everything else the BSI co-ordinates is working OK.
3) You really, really don't want the problem to be in the BSI. It's a big pain to fix BSI faults.
My money is on the COM2000 and specifically the receiver module (as I mentioned before).
The fact that the indicators, wipers and everything else works OK I'd say the COMs is OK and the problem is related to the receiver module.
It will be interesting to see what Citroen says.

However the central locking isn't working, but when I'm in the car with the engine running and I press the lock button on the dashboard all the doors look so I know the wiring and locking motor works fine. I've put a new battery in the key fob but that hasn't changed anything.

I've also noticed the date and time always resets to midnight 1st of January 2004 when I fire it up and that the external boot release button won't work untill I've fire the car up.

There appears to be no sputtering when I turn the engine on and it starts up fine every time (although I've only owned it a few days so take that as you will) so I think the battery itself is okay. Because of this I'm wondering if theres corrosion on the battery terminals that would be causing these issues?
The car has the stock radio so I'm pretty sure it's not a poorly fitted radio pulling power.

I know very little about cars, but this seems like a reasonable assumption to me. Is there something else I've missed that would be a more likely cause?
Hello! I have the exact same car and problems.. only owned the C3 a couple of days. Wondering how it went after you visited the Citroen dealer. Any updates? Would help me alot!

The BSI repair topic for the common central locking fault is here.

It doesn't address the date reset but that is also the BSI so they may well be connected.
