With the car unlocked,

At the rear of the car, above the number plate is a sliver handle. in the middle of the handle, underneath is a black pad which is a switch. Just put your fingers on the black pad and lift.

This will activate the switch that unlocks the boot, and also lift the boot in the process.

Thank u for your response but I did try that & it doesn't seem to work ;(
Is there a known fault with this ???
It did open when the key was in the ignition & engine wasn't running but it won't do it again

There is this post:

Citroen C3 bad doors and boot not opening

But it involves the rear doors too, it would be worth checking if you have problems with the rear doors too.

The boot lock and switch is all controlled by the computer (BSI), I would test the switch in the handle and the unlocking motor, unless the rear doors are affected too.

All the central locking etc is working but it's the pad at the boot that is not therefore the boot will not open.
Also my engine management light is on so I don't no if possibly these are connected in some way??

Hi LeeannD1980,

engine management light is on
Its unlikely to be connected directly, but getting the 'engine management light' sorted out has to take priority over the boot!

The boot could be the switch or the latch, or the BSI. It needs someone with a Digital Multimeter and some electronics knowledge to find where the problem lies.

For the MIL or engine management light, you could try Citroen or an Auto Electrician.
If the car is a petrol or later model diesel, you could try yourself with an OBD2 Scanner (from here) - a cheap tool to quickly read the error codes stored in the engine for diagnosis of the fix engine light/MIL/engine management light

If you need to open the boot to carry out the checks, then you can manually unlock the boot from inside.

You will need a torch and a flat bladed screwdriver.

Fold the split rear seats down to access the boot from inside the car
poke the screwdriver into the hole on the boot latch on the inside of the boot and turn the screwdriver to manually unlock.

(Citroen say rotate the screwdriver, but I would describe it more as a levering action) ;)

This is a picture of the screwdriver in the 'manual unlocking hole'

Thanks again for the hints for emergency opening but I still can't resolve the manual opening of the boot ... Looks like I'll need to go to a garage ;(
Still to have a look at the fuses etc for the switch or bsi.
