Hi all,

I have a 2002 Citroen C3 and having trouble with the air conditioning system.

Driving home yesterday the a/c was working fine, then suddenly out of nowhere the blower
fan just went into 'full blast' mode and the cold a/c air is no longer operating.

And now each time I start the car, the blower fan is running at maximum full speed with no cold
air at all and I am unable to control it regardless on what I press at the a/c control panel (I can't even switch it off)

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated guys (I just don't have the cash pay the a/c technician at the moment :( )

Cheers,
Sphynx...

Hello sphynx

Do you have the 'climate control' (fully automatic air con)

If you do, then its probable that the air con control is faulty.

Knowing if its a diesel or petrol also helps identify which fuse to pull to silence the fan as citroen did something different for each engine and aircon system.

Hello Arfur,

Yes, it is 'climate control' (fully automatic air con) type system and it's a petrol engine.

I have actually disconnected and removed the a/c control unit from the dashboard but did not make any difference (the blower fan still comes on at full speed when the car is started :? )

Thanks for the extra info Dennis,

Fuse F18 (40A) in the fuse box in the engine bay protects the fan motor for some versions.

Citroen C3 Fuse Box locations

Try removing Fuse F18 from the engine bay fuse box and see if the fan stops.

The problem is, my diagram shows the fan motor being powered by the air con control panel, so disconnecting that should silence the fan (and point to where the problem is) but you have tried that and the fan still runs full speed.

Let me know if F18 has any effect.

Other things to check would be the fan resistor pack (looks like these), as this affects the fan motor speed and can fail putting the blower on full whack.

And there are pictures of where it is in this topic - Heater blower failure

Hi again Arfur,

Yes, removing fuse f18 does stop the blower fan (even with the a/c control unit connected back on)

Do you know where the resistor pack is located and how to check/test it for any defects?

What seems very confusing to me is why would the a/c compressor clutch stops receiving power [12v] just because the blower fan suddenly goes on full speed when the car is started?

Regards.

I know the answer to that one, the answer is 'because it is controlled by the BSI computer'

The air con clutch and many other things are either controlled directly by the BSI or the BSI arbitrates the signal to the device.

As for the second bit, I don't know off hand where to look for the resistor fan motor pack. I will have a look in the new year as there are celebrations to be had very soon.

At least you can silence the fan for now.

Where is the heater resistor located on a Citroen C3?

At the top of the footwell under a plastic cover held on by a T20 torx screw.
